Life After Spinal Cord Injury: Awareness, Representation, and Hope

 Hello my people,

Spinal Cord Injuries Can Happen to Anyone

When most people think of spinal cord injuries, they picture extreme sports or wild accidents. The truth is much different. A spinal cord injury can happen to anyone, at any age, and often in the most ordinary moments.

I was 18 years old in 2008 when my accident happened. One minute I was just a teenager living life, and the next everything had changed. That moment reshaped my entire world, but it did not end it.

Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month

September is Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month, a time dedicated to educating, informing, and representing the millions of people worldwide who live with spinal cord injuries.

This month, I am sharing one video every single day. My goal is not to scare you. My goal is to remind you that life can shift in an instant, but people like me are living proof that it does not stop there.

Life After Spinal Cord Injury

One of the most important things I want others to know is that you can live a full and joyful life after a spinal cord injury. The challenges are real, and the obstacles are not easy, but impossible is nothing.

Today I am a mother, a wife, and a lifestyle creator. My wheelchair is a part of my story, but it does not define the entire book. Every day is proof that resilience, faith, and community make all the difference.

Why Awareness and Representation Matter

Awareness matters because it changes how people understand spinal cord injuries. The more we share real stories, the more myths are broken and the more hope is spread.

Representation matters because when you see someone living fully after an injury, it shifts what you believe is possible for yourself. When I was newly injured, I did not see women who looked like me raising children or creating thriving lives. That absence created doubt. Today I share my journey so others do not have to wonder.

And living fully matters most of all. It is a reminder that the human spirit is not limited by a wheelchair, a diagnosis, or a scar.

Building a More Accessible World

Beyond awareness, we need action. Creating a world that is accessible for all people with disabilities is not only possible, it benefits everyone. From adaptive housing to inclusive public spaces, accessibility gives all of us the chance to participate, contribute, and thrive.

A Final Thought

The text on my video says, “One minute you are just a teenager, the next minute you have a spinal cord injury.” That was my story at 18. It could be anyone’s story. But the important truth is this: a spinal cord injury is not the end of life.

Life after spinal cord injury is still life. It is still beautiful. It is still filled with love, purpose, and miracles.

This September, join me in spreading awareness. Share what you learn, correct myths when you hear them, and help create a world that truly values accessibility and representation.
